IRONWELD Low Spatter ER70S-6 Mild Steel Solid MIG Wire
AWS A5.18 ER70S-6 solid MIG/GMAW wire, precision drawn and copper coated for consistent arc performance and minimal spatter. Built for high-duty-cycle production welding where downtime spent chipping spatter off the gun tip or workpiece is downtime you don't get paid for.
Why choose this wire:
The low spatter performance comes down to two things: a tightly controlled copper coating that keeps electrical contact consistent through the contact tip (uneven coating is the usual cause of erratic arc starts and spatter), and precise wire diameter tolerance from the drawing process, which keeps wire feed smooth and arc length stable. ER70S-6's higher manganese and silicon content adds strong deoxidizing action, so it welds cleanly through light mill scale, rust, or oily surfaces without the porosity you'd get from a lower-alloy wire, while the extra silicon improves puddle fluidity for a flatter, smoother bead and less post-weld grinding.
Certification:
Carries the same classification approvals as our ER70S-6 TIG wire: Lloyd's Register (LR), American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Bureau Veritas (BV), and other major classification societies. These are the certs shipyards, structural steel contractors, and pressure vessel fabricators need on their Material Test Certificate (MTC) to trace a weld back to an approved consumable, so this wire covers both general production work and classed/compliance jobs off the one reel.
Specifications:
Classification: AWS A5.18 ER70S-6
Process: MIG/GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding)
Shielding gas: CO2, or Argon/CO2 mix (75-80% Ar / 20-25% CO2) depending on penetration and spatter preference
Polarity: DCEP (Direct Current Electrode Positive)
Typical applications: structural steel, tanks, pipe, truck and trailer bodies, farm implements, general and production fabrication
Ideal for: high-volume production welders and fabricators who need consistent, low-spatter runs on mild steel without sacrificing classification compliance.
